The Women’s Cougar Basketball program has been under the direction of coach Tyrone Taylor, who is entering his 6th season. This past season (2011-2012) the Cougars placed 2nd overall in the Central Valley Conference. Taylor was also named the Central Valley Conference Coach of the Year. The Lady Cougars have won several pre-season tournaments which include the Hartnell and San Diego City Classics. Prior to joining the Taft College coaching staff, Coach Taylor began his career playing basketball for CSU Bakersfield and Casper College, located in Wyoming. Taylor has had several years experience coaching both boys and girls high school teams in Bakersfield, as well as, in Seattle WA. Coach Taylor lead the Ridgeview High School’s lady pack team to their first appearance in the Final Four Girls Basketball Playoffs. His coaching philosophy involves inspiring the students to pursue both academic and athletic endeavors for an optimum educational experience. He values discipline and encourages sportsman-like behavior from his athletes both on and off the court. Coach Taylor has been married for 20 years and is the proud father of three children. |
