Head Coach Vince Maiocco

Vince Maiocco enters his eighth year as the Cougar's head baseball coach this year. In his time as the Cougars head coach he has been instrumental in attaining some significant accomplishments; most notably the first back-to-back-to-back winning seasons at Taft College since the 1985-87 seasons.  The Cougars enjoyed their first winning season in 2009 with a 24-19-1 record, the first winning season since 1994.  In 2010 the team finished with a 22-14 record, and in 2011 the Cougars had an identical 22-14 record and finished as NorCal’s #17 ranked team.  Coach Maiocco had extensive head coaching experience before coming to Taft College as an assistant coach in 2001 for long time head coach and 2007 CCCBCA Hall of Fame Inductee, Tony Thompson. He was the head coach at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California from 1992-1998. He served as an assistant coach from 1988-1992 to California Community College Hall of Fame coach, Dennis DeRoss at College of the Siskiyous. He also played for Coach DeRoss from 1982-1983. Coach Maiocco was the head coach for the Humboldt Crabs summer collegiate baseball club from 1993-1995 in Arcata, California. Maiocco has extensive high school coaching experience as well. He was the varsity coach at Delano High School in 2000, where he turned a struggling program into a "respected" East Yosemite League team. From 1984-1986 he coached at his high alma mater, Corning High School and during the 1987 season he coached at Orland High School. Maiocco's wife Tami is a Physical Education Teacher, Girls Golf Coach and Boys Tennis Coach at Bakersfield High School. They have two daughters; Mary and Laurynn.



 



Pitching Coach Jeremy Wedel

Jeremy enters his sixth year as the Cougars pitching coach. Jeremy played professionally in the Philadelphia Phillies organization from 1998 to 2004. He was on the Phillies 40-man roster during spring training in the 2003 & 2004 seasons. An arm injury forced him out of baseball after the 2004 season. Jeremy is best known locally for his two outstanding seasons at Bakersfield College in 1996 & 1997. He was a two-time All-Western State Conference pitcher. In 1996 he was selected the Western State Conference "Pitcher of the Year." After playing two seasons for coach Tim Painton at Bakersfield College, in 1997 he transferred to Armstrong Atlantic University in Armstrong, Georgia where he was an NCAA Divison II "All-American." He was then drafted in the 20th round by the Phillies after the 1998 baseball season. Jeremy played for coach Leonard Ortiz at Wasco High School from 1991 to 1994. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from CSUB in 2008 and is currently pursuing a teaching credential at the University of Phoenix.  Jeremy, his wife Amanda and their son Charles all live in Wasco. 




Assistant Coach Chris Wedel

Chris Wedel begins his first year as a coach at his alma-matter. Chris played at Taft College in 2006-07; during his sophomore year he was a member of the starting rotation at TC. After graduating from Taft College, Chris received an athletic scholarship to William Penn University in Iowa. Chris was a two year starter and during his senior year he had one of the best seasons at the NAIA level.  He amassed a 10-3 record with a 2.39 ERA, these numbers helped Chris attain All Region at William Penn and NAIA honorable mention All American. Chris will be helping out with the outfielders and pitchers as an assistant coach.
