  3. Do you want some guidance or help developing an education plan?

  • Step 3: Assessment (for matriculating students or those
wishing to enroll in math or English courses)

New students pursuing a degree or certificate or who wish to enroll in classes with math or English prerequisites are strongly encouraged to complete assessment testing. Students who can provide documentation of previously completed math or English coursework may be exempt from assessment testing. Previous college assessment test scores are acceptable if placement recommendations accompany the scores. Copies of grade reports, transcripts, or test scores will be required to enroll in courses with prerequisites. Students may complete the Assessment step by one of the following:

Step 4: Transcripts (matriculating students only)

All applicants are required to submit official transcripts of all college work.  Students that have completed less than 12 units of college work must submit an official high school transcript, official GED, or official High School Proficiency or Equivalency certificate.  Students that have completed 12 units or more of college work must show proof of graduation, High School Proficiency or Equivalency certificate, or GED.  Proof may be unofficial documents.

Students who wish to receive credit for courses taken at a foreign institution must have their transcripts evaluated by one of the following services:

    • World Education Services (WES)- www.wes.org
    • Educational Records Evaluations Services (ERES)- www.eres.com
    • Academic & Professional International Evaluations, Inc. (APIE)- www.apie.org

Fees vary per agency and by services requested. For additional information contact the Admissions Technician.

    Step 5: Counseling/Advisement
                 (for matriculating students only)

    • Academic Counseling and/or Advisement

After completing the above steps, you need to schedule an advisement appointment with a counselor or academic advisor. Appointments can be in person or by telephone. A number of activities will take place during this session. The counselor/advisor will review your assessment test scores and prior academic history and assist you in selecting a course load appropriate to the skill level and educational goal you have identified. The counselor/advisor will also assist you in developing an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to guide you toward the attainment of that goal. You will be assigned a PIN that will allow you access to registration and your student records

    • Local students or those attending face-to-face classes as well as remote students need to call (661) 763-7748 to set up an appointment

Step 6: Registration for Classes (for all students)

After meeting with your counselor/advisor and/or receiving your PIN, you are ready to register for classes. The following are the methods in which you can register. Once that is completed, be sure to select your method of payment in e-Step #7: Financial Obligations and order your books and required materials.

Step 7: Financial Obligations (for all students)

Payment of fees is a student's responsibility. Be sure to complete this step to find out the deadline for payment of fees. Not doing so may result in you being dropped from classes.

Step 8: Bookstore (for all students)

Taft College offers a textbook rental program where you can rent the majority of your textbooks. Many courses also require workbooks that must be purchased. Books can be picked up in person the week before classes begin. Check the Bookstore link to see when books can be ordered online.

Important Note: When picking up your books in person, you must have a copy of your printed schedule of classes to rent/buy your textbooks.
