EOPS is a California State and District funded Program
established to recruit, enroll and retain students. The EOPS program is designed to
assist students who are identified as economically and educationally disadvantaged.
Eligible students are provided with a wide range of support services to enable them to
succeed at Taft College.
CARE is a California State funded Program designed to
provide additional support services to recipients of Aid to Families with Dependent
Children (AFDC) who would like to attend college. CARE provides support services
and/or grant funds to enable academic success and to assist single parents with the
development of potential ability through academic support and financial assistance.
EOPS/CARE Services
Educational Planning to determine the appropriate courses to meet educational and/or vocational goals.
Academic/personal counseling, to develop coping strategies to meet the demands of school and home.
Peer advising
Priority registration
Book service
Financial grants - moneys to assist with the cost of childcare as well as other school related costs.
Support services - tutoring, financial aid assistance, transfer information and referral to community agencies.
EOPS Eligibility
In general, students are eligible for Extended Opportunity
Program and Services (EOPS) if they meet the following criteria:
A resident of California.
Completed less than 70 degree applicable college units.
Enrolled full-time in a program leading toward a certificate, associate degree, or transfer to a four-year institution.
Meet the state income criteria.
>Economically and educationally disadvantaged
Enrolled in at least 12 units. (Some exceptions may apply).
CARE Eligibility
Students are eligible for Cooperative Agencies Resources for
Education (CARE) if they meet the following criteria:
Determined EOPS eligible
Receiving AFDC/TANF/CALWORKS
assistance and have one child, in the household, under 14 years of age.
At least 18 years old and single head of household.
Applied for financial aid and have a
need for childcare and other support services.
Who is eligible for EOPS/CARE?
All students are encouraged to apply for EOPS/CARE. Both
programs service a wide array of students, including re-entry men and women, veterans,
students who have not yet graduated from high school, single parents, students from
under-represented ethnic groups, and students who are disabled.
